Oslo
The journey
The EJW started its journey in December 2019 and was sheduled to perform at Oslo Jazz Festival in August 2020. Sadly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no-one could travel and the concert was postponed one year, and on Saturday 21. August 2021, the amazing premiere cru group played together live in Oslo, Norway, at the Oslo Jazz Festival. A lot have happened since then, we have new partners from Vienna, and we look forward to bring EJW once again back to where it all started: Oslo and Oslo Jazz festival.
The music
We will investigate the art of stealing: Recomposing existing material, also with a closer look at how composers and jazz musicians have approached historical material with a focus on folk music. For the january BIP, composers bring sketches with connection to recomposing, contrefacts, transformal arranging, or using source material from folk music and so on. The Jazz tradition have always borrowed source material from Broadway, classical music, folk music and so on, and our slogum is (stolen from Jean Luc Godard): "It´s not where you take things from, it´s where you take them to".
It is the second time around for Oslo, here is the Concert from our first project, the very first EJW concert:
